Bonnier News, the leading media group in the Nordics, today announced that it donates 100,000 € in support of free and independent journalism in Ukraine. The money will be given to international and national media organisations as well as local media operating in Ukraine.
Our greatest effort in support of free speech is of course our journalism. As of now, our newspapers have correspondents on the ground in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, and we continue to cover the war. But as one of the largest publishers in Europe, Bonnier News also intends to support Ukrainian media and will donate 100,000 €“, says Anders Eriksson, CEO of Bonnier News.
“The Bonnier News titles in Sweden are members of Tidningsutgivarna, the national newspapers’ association, and given help from WAN-IFRA last week, Tidningsutgivarna has also provided financial support to The Ukrainian Association of Press Publishers which is also a member of WAN-IFRA.
Bonnier News is the publisher of national titles such as Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Dagens industri as well as 44 local newspapers in Sweden. Bonnier News is also the owner of business newspapers in Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia.
“Our most important contribution is always the journalism that Bonnier News’ various newspapers, which are published in Eastern Europe, among other places, do. Bonnier has been a committed publisher of media in the old Eastern bloc since the 1990s, and we now see that the need for help in Ukraine is great. That is why we want to contribute to independent journalism there ”
“We follow the development and what is done and said from media organizations such as Tidningsutgivarna and Utgivarna, we are also in dialogue with international media organizations and can also provide targeted support. There is reason to believe that the conflict will be long-lasting and therefore we have formed several working groups for this. “
“We hope that the global ecosystem of news publishers will join us in support of the brave journalists in Ukraine.” concluded Anders Eriksson.
