The programme is aimed at women media professionals from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico. The 17 selected women will acquire new skills through training and coaching sessions to develop their professional roadmap.
The announcement was made at Digital Media Latam, the regional news industry conference organised by WAN-IFRA Latam and held in the Mexican city of Mérida. The 17 selected professionals who will participate in the programme were present.
“WAN-IFRA is pleased to launch WIN Latam, in partnership with the Google News Initiative, and to present it at our annual Digital Media Latam 2022 conference. This programme, focused on supporting the professional development of women executives in Latin American media companies, is based on the experience and knowledge gained during more than 10 years of training women media leaders in WAN-IFRA’s Women in the News Programme worldwide. It will be a great opportunity to support the professional growth of these future leaders by providing spaces for inspiration and the knowledge of new tools,” said Olga Britto, WAN-IFRA’s Director for Latin America and Spain.
The professionals selected to participate in the first edition of WIN LATAM are María Celeste González (Página12/Argentina), Maria Gabriela Lujan Bouret (La Nación/Argentina), María Fernanda Blasco (La Capital de Rosario/Argentina), Ma. José Bonacifa (Perfil/Argentina), María Soledad Huespe (Infonegocios de Córdoba/Argentina), Paula Valeria Boglione (NuevaRioja/Argentina), Victoria Yanina Terzaghi (Diario de Río Negro/Argentina), Lucía Paula Díaz Gálvez (El Día/Chile), Paulette Nicole Desormeaux Parra (Mega/Chile), Claudia Fuentes (Diario La Tribuna/Chile), Estefanía Colmenares (La Opinión/Colombia), Paola Margot Ugaz Cruz (Nativa TV/Peru), Ana Cecilia Tentle Arias (Político/Mexico), Ana Luisa Garcés Zepeda (El Universal/Mexico), Irene Muñoz (Eje Central/Mexico), Lynnett Rubio (El Sol del Bajío/Mexico) and Verónica Orbe Arteaga (El Sol de Acapulco/Mexico).
“For the Google News Initiative, it is very important to support and work hand in hand with local and regional media, whose contents and approaches narrate different visions of reality. It is key to strengthen women’s media leadership with programmes and initiatives such as WIN. This unique initiative seeks to train the female media executives of tomorrow, preparing them to reach leadership positions in their companies. We are very pleased to continue working with WAN-IFRA on this and other programmes that will continue to strengthen the media ecosystem in Latin America and around the world,” said Rodrigo Bonilla, News Industry Relations Manager for Latin America at Google.
One of the programme’s main objectives is for each participant to design a 3 to a 5-year career plan. The process will be carried out with the support of a strategic coach who will personally guide them in creating their roadmap. The working methodology of the programme also includes developing eight training curricula selected to enhance the professional profile and where participants can exchange experiences.
In the sessions, they will deepen their knowledge on different topics such as leadership and team management, discrimination and inclusive policies, dealing with violence and protocols, finance for non-financial managers, change management, product and innovation, and marketing and advertising.
